Description:
I remember my first visit to La Fogata. I spent the weekend on a backcountry hiking trip in the North Cascades with some friends and could not wait to get a real meal after two days of camping food. As we reached the end of our trek, a friend of mine suggested that we drive through a quaint little town called Snoqualmie and visit this little Mexican restaurant that he had stumbled across one weekend. Now, my friend is extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food, so I was fully confident in his selection. That first visit began my long and consistently pleasing relationship with La Fogata.

La Fogata (translated to "The Bonfire") is a delightful little establishment nestled in amongst a small strip of businesses that make up downtown Snoqualmie. In fact, if you are not specifically looking for it, you would probably just drive on by. The restaurant is nothing extraordinary on the exterior, but after all, it is the interior that really matters. After opening the two sets of doors that lead into the main dining area, you are greeted by a smiling face that immediately seats you. In fact, all of the service personnel seem genuinely happy to meet your dining needs. La Fogata is a family-run restaurant that has been successful for over 4 years. The atmosphere is extremely cozy with the walls exuding a Mexican-style salmon color and the ceiling a pleasing aqua color, with Spanish music providing background ambience. Although La Fogata is not a large establishment, it never feels cramped or uncomfortable.

The dining experience begins with a basket of tortilla chips taken directly from the oven with a flavorful medium-hot salsa, along with optional sour cream and guacamole. The dining selection at La Fogata is wide and varied, with something to suit everyone in the family -- including burgers for the kids. Just remember: don’t fill up on the chips! The food is consistently fresh and the portions are perfect. It is the service however, that sets La Fogata apart from many other restaurants. Expect your food to arrive very quickly after ordering. Expect your drinks to be filled even before you think to ask. Expect your bill without prompting. The amazing thing, though, is that you never feel rushed. Enjoy a leisurely dining experience or a quick bite.

La Fogata is one of those rare gems whose popularity is sure to soar. I suggest you take a visit to downtown Snoqualmie and eat at La Fogata while it remains relatively undiscovered. Your taste buds will thank you -- particularly after a long, grueling hike.
